About credit and respect

I do not post anything without proper credit and I wish more Tumblr users would do the same. Respect the original author/artist. Not to mention how often I see art that is amazing and wish I knew who made it so I could see more of their work! Searching for literary works is quite easy: Simply type a part of it into Google. But what about images? Here are some great ways to search for originals:

1. Google Images: In the search box in Google Images you can see a small picture of a camera. Click it. Post the URL of, or upload from your computer, the picture which origin you want to know. Google will then give you websites where that image can be found and similar images. You can most probably find your original poster on there.
2. TinEye: Another search by image engine!
3. Ask the person who first posted it where they got it from. They might know but just didn’t credit for some reason.
4. Go through the notes of that post to see if somebody recognised it and added the credit. You can most often see “x reblogged this and added:” so you don’t have to go through all those blogs.
5. Make a Google search with a few words that describe the picture. For example “tattoos girl blue hair”. Works quite often for me!

Of course it is more work to search for originals than to simply click that reblog button, but I think the artists, models, authors and the likes deserve to be given recognition for their work. It isn’t really that difficult. If people posted the credits in the first place when they blog something, this wouldn’t be a problem. I do not mean to preach to anyone - I only want to give you the tools to find out who that pretty girl in the picture is or who made that amazing piece of art. And maybe, when you reblog something, you can add the link or a name for other people to see.
